Paving Care Tips

Do place soil on edges for ease in mowing lawn and car tires will not break edge.

Do not drive on new asphalt for 3 days. Asphalt will remain soft and pliable before it has cooled. Also, keep vehicles off all areas that require sharp turns from your vehicle for an additional 3 days.

Do not drive off the edges of your driveway, especially when it is new.

The earliest new asphalt can be sealed is 4 to 6 weeks. If cars are maintained well and gas and oil leakage is minimal, driveway sealing could be put off until the following year.

Make sure to keep your vehicle moving at all times when turning your steering wheel. The sun beating down on asphalt during the hot summer months softens your driveway, making it susceptible to blemishes made by the tires of your vehicle when making turns. If you do get blemishes from sharp power steering, do not worry, they are only cosmetic and will disappear with time.

Salt will not damage sealer but can be detrimental to unsealed asphalt if applied heavily year after year on aging unsealed asphalt.

Ultra violet rays from the sun are the worst enemy to unsealed asphalt.

Caustic car and tire cleaners should be rinsed will from asphalt surface.

Avoid bike kick stands, tire jacks and firewood racks that have sharp pointed bases.

Quality pavement starts with quality grading.
Because asphalt pavement is only as good as its underlying stone base, it is important to have the proper stone base thickness. This stone base is then fine graded to assure proper drainage.

STEP

Fresh asphalt should be placed, tamped and compacted while still warm. Appleton Asphalt's workers hustle to complete the task before the blacktop cools. With asphalt materials the method of placement is important. Selecting the correct technique is required for a high quality job.
